Our story.

CyberVista was founded in 2016, but our history reaches back near 85 years. This is how we’ve come to serve you and your organization today. 


Stanley Kaplan starts tutoring students in the basement of his parents’ Brooklyn home. Many of his students were from immigrant families, eager to pursue higher education and achieve success in America.

Today, Kaplan is one of the world’s largest and most diverse education providers—with 12,000 employees working across 28 countries—serving individuals, businesses and universities worldwide.


Kaplan, now with over 100 centers around the US, is acquired by The Washington Post Company. The Washington Post Company became the Graham Holdings Company following the sale of The Washington Post in 2013.


SelfTest Software and Transcender, both founded in 1992. Kaplan Professional acquired SelfTest Software in 1999, followed by Transcender in 2003, creating the largest IT test prep business in the industry.


CyberVista launched at CES in 2016 with the mission of solving the skills gap across the cybersecurity workforce. Leveraging over 80 years of high-quality assessments and learning science methodologies, CyberVista set out to change the way that organizations improve the knowledge, skills, and abilities of their valued team members.

Kaplan IT Training joins forces with CyberVista as a single company in October 2018.  Together as one company, CyberVista moves forward to forge a successful path for the future of the cybersecurity workforce for both practitioners as well as the organizations that they empower and defend.

Simone Petrella is CEO and Co-Founder of CyberVista.  Previously, Simone was a Senior Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton where she helped build the firm’s cybersecurity practice in the commercial sector focusing on the creation of cyber fusion centers and the integration of cyber threat intelligence, security operations, and cyber defense operations into effective cyber security operations. For a decade she led the firm’s all source cyber threat intelligence business in the national security and Defense sectors, where she built out a threat capability and team with in depth subject matter expertise in all aspects of cyber threat intelligence, including intelligence support to both defensive and offensive operations. Her areas of specialty included predictive cyber intelligence based on an understanding of the threat adversary and developing service offerings to integrate intelligence into exercises to provide realistic cyber scenarios.

Simone received her J.D. with honors from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law and graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Government and a M.A. in International Law and Policy. She is a member of Women in International Security and is admitted to the New York Bar. A native of New Jersey, she has resided in Washington D.C. since 2000.

  • Jung Lee is Chief Product Officer at CyberVista with responsibility for the design, development, delivery, and management of all professional education courses including certification test preparation and workforce development.

    Jung was previously responsible for the product development and curriculum design programs at Kaplan, MCAT and GRE. He believes his entrepreneurial and operational background – he started and operated an opportunistic hedge fund – and his analytic nature are major assets in his current role. Jung attended Harvard University where he graduated with a BA in Biochemistry before earning his MBA at Babson College.

  • Brian McNulty is CyberVista’s Chief Financial Officer, leading our finance, reporting, and analytics teams.

    He brings over 20 years of experience gained across a diverse group of industries including: banking, theme parks, payroll processing, higher education and golf. Over the course of his career, Brian has led teams in enterprise, start up, and nonprofit organizations.

    Brian has expertise in financial modeling and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Brian earned his BA in Economics from Oglethorpe University and his MBA from the Yale School of Management.

    Brian is an avid baseball fan; loves the outdoors; and has no rhythm. So naturally, his daughter is a competitive dancer and his son loves to play ice hockey.

  • Patrick Mullan joined the CyberVista executive team in 2019 as Vice President of Sales & Marketing and is thrilled to be helping organizations navigate and address the cybersecurity skills gap to create a cyber-ready workforce. Patrick is a highly organized, innovative thinker, who excels at leading teams through challenging projects. His drive to succeed plays a significant role in his proactive ability to work with customers to identify problems and implement a solution-focused approach to developing corrective measures.

    During his twelve years previously at Bloomberg Industry Group, Patrick exemplified the qualities of a transformative sales leader – consistently spearheading innovative initiatives to increase revenue, reduce costs and enhance the overall bottom line.

    Patrick received both his BA in English and MBA with a specialization in Management from Fairfield University. A native of Connecticut, he is an avid New York sports fan who now resides in Arlington, VA with his wife and two children.

  • Jeff Welgan is the Executive Director, Head of Executive & Professional Training. He is the developer and expert of in-person and digital programs for business leaders and board of directors on effective cyber risk management.

    He carries over a decade’s worth of experience supporting intelligence agencies during his time as Lead Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton, directing intelligence teams and working with leaders across both the private and public sectors. Being trained in Threat Intelligence, having served in the US Navy and as a former Search and Rescue swimmer, Jeff believes in leading from the front and having a ‘can do’ attitude. 

    He holds a BA in Political Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and an MS in Applied Intelligence from Mercyhurst University. He’s also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

    Jeff is a serious coffee buff, and loves spending time in the great outdoors and with his family.

  • Joshua Hester As the Director of Professional Training at CyberVista, Joshua Hester is committed to developing the certification programs and role-based training that will best prepare professionals for real-world scenarios, and ensure their employers are able to measure that progress in real-time.

    A lifelong learning enthusiast, Joshua found his passion for education during his time as a Senior Technical Instructor at New Horizons. Since then, he has managed large migration projects, developed online and traditional ILT curricula, and led teams of IT and cybersecurity subject matter experts in developing online courses, digital assessments, cloud-based labs, mobile apps and other related software.

    Joshua received his BA in English and Computer Science from Colgate University and MS in Education in Instructional Technology from Purdue University Global, in addition to numerous industry certifications in cybersecurity, project management, agile design principles, programming languages, and open-source technologies.

  • Breanne Winter serves as CyberVista’s Director of Operations, implementing and streamlining new processes to help drive the company to the forefront of the industry.

    She brought a conceptual and strategic mindset to the organization when she first joined as an Academic Operations Manager, overseeing all administration and implementation for CyberVista courses. Her adaptable and results-oriented leadership built through her previous roles in academia and volunteerism within the DC community, positioned her seamlessly as Director of Operations. 

    Breanne graduated from Bridgewater College with a BS in Business Administration and received her MBA from the University of Phoenix; in addition to earning an Executive Certificate in Leadership from the Jack Welch Management Institute.

  • Joseph O’Neill is CyberVista’s Executive Director of Marketing. He is an experienced marketer within digital channels, lead-generation, product, and brand marketing.

    Joe has held multiple roles in marketing and business development in startups and has spent the past seven years focused on go-to-market activity in products and services in cybersecurity and privacy. Currently, Joe leads a talented team of product marketers focused on growing the CyberVista brand and driving sales enablement.

    He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from West Chester University and an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.  Joe lives in Washington, D.C. and spends his free time traveling with his two favorite adventurers.

  • Jenn Herroon is the Senior National Account Director, developing consultative solutions to organizations on information security strategy and cyber risk management. 

    With her previous experience in marketing and continuous learning in the IT Services community, Jenn has ample understanding of the unique challenges businesses face as it relates to cyber risk and workforce development, and is able to deliver solutions to meet security goals, compliance and budget. Jenn utilizes her strong information security background to assist global  SOC’s and Cyber Defense organizations with an emphasis on the Fortune 500 clients within the industries of healthcare, retail, technology, and manufacturing.

    Jenn studied Broadcast/Mass Communications and Marketing at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and earned her BA from Wayne State College.

    When Jenn’s not traveling for work, you can find her either spending her free time boutique shopping, spending time with her sons or practicing hot yoga.

  • Peter McCalla is delighted to be joining CyberVista as an Account Executive to help strengthen the largest organizations in the world by providing cybersecurity professionals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to drive defense.

    Peter’s passion for assisting clients dates back 15 years to when he started his own landscaping business with two friends while in high school. Most recently, Peter worked with Fortune 500 organizatins to build out quantitative risk management programs which helped executives better understand and articulate their loss exposure in business terms. Peter prides himself on being a trusted advisor in the cybersecurity industry with an approach that is hyper-focused on the client’s needs and objectives.

    He earned his bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Radford University. Peter lives in Fairfax, Virginia with his wife and son. Outside of work Peter enjoys cooking, hiking, and rooting for his hometown sports teams in the Washington, DC area.

  • Delvin Benjamin is CyberVista’s Senior National Account Director. He is strategic and results-focused with a passion for developing long-term business relationships. 

    Delvin has defined his leadership stature coming from 12 years serving in the US Marine Corps, where he managed an over $2.5M budget and lead junior personnel. Following his time in the Marines, Delvin worked his way up at Kaplan from Warehouse Manager to Regional Sales Director for IT training, with a focus in the corporate, academic, and government space. 

    Having years of experience in both military training and client relations, he is a customer advocate, a team player and an effective leader.
